Candy List General Surfing Advice

It's been a while since I added something to this section so I decided to totally revamp it and make it easier to read and get info regarding spyware and page hijacking etc.

First off let me say that I would NEVER put pop-ups, spyware or anything else malicious on the site or link to any site that contains any of that garbage so if you are experiencing any of this while surfing the links or the site it means that your computer is infected with spyware.

I have four pieces of advice that I always tell everyone if they want to keep their computer clean......

01: Install A Spyware Removal Program
You should run the program at the first sign of your computer acting weird and also do a weekly or bi-weekly maintenance sweep. The ones I recommend and have used in the past are below:

Webroot's Spy Sweeper
I have been using this for over a year now and it's awesome, haven't had any major issues with spyware in that time so I highly recommend this program. It costs $29.95 for a one year subscription and it's worth every penny. With all the aggrevation this program saved me from you can tell why I praise it as much as I do :-)

Spy Bot Search & Destroy 1.3
I used to use the 1.2 version a few years back and it caught alot of stuff. This program is free so if you can't spare the money this one is a good option.

Adware Personal Edition 1.05
Another program that I used an earlier edition of back in the day, really liked this one as well. This one is also free so you should use the two free ones together to keep your system clean.

02: Try To Surf Sites You Trust
With trillions of pages out there this is easier said then done but if you just stick to sites you know and trust the chances of you getting infected go down drastically I find. Especially when surfing adult sites I find this to be very key as well and hopefully Candy List is a site you trust :-)

03: Keep Your Windows Version Updated
New security patches and stuff like that comes out quite frequently, keeping your O/S up to date gives the bad guys a smaller chance at finding security leaks in your system.

Try to do this at least once a month and keep your eyes open for news stories about major security flaws etc.

04: Pop-up Blocker & A Firewall
The two other things your computer needs to be safe is a firewall and a pop-up blocker. Below is what I use......

Google Toolbar (Pop Up Blocker)
This is a nice clean toolbar that gives you some nice features as well. I highly recommend using the google one although I'm sure yahoo's one is just as good. What I caution you is never to install toolbars from companies you do not know.

Zone Labs (Firewall)
I've been using these guys' firewall (Zone Alarm Pro) for three years now I believe and have been very happy with it. It's also quite easy to setup and run.
